Ridley are a relative newcomer to the quality bicycle manufacturing scene, having been formed as recently as 1990. Since then Ridley bikes have grown rapidly and substantially, sponsoring a number of continental professional teams, and becoming well known for their high performance frames & bikes, the Ridley Noah Fast (pictured right) and the Ridley Dean (see below) are Ridley's top aerodynamically efficient frames with Ridley technologies such as F-Brake (Integrated brake caipers), F-Surface (a treatment that improves the frame's aerodynamics) and the F-Splitfork (a fork design which guides the airflow away from the wheel. Ridley being a Belgian company have also pushed the boundaries when it comes to cyclocross bikes, Ridley cyclocross bikes have been used at the highest level and have become one of, if not the leading manufacturer of cyclo-cross bikes.
In 1990, Race Productions NV was founded as a frame and paint shop for the local bicycle shops. In 1997, the Ridley Bikes brand was founded. In the early beginnings, Ridley bikes were only distributed on the local market. In a few years time, the company became market leader on the Belgian market for race bikes. In 2001, Ridley Bikes started their own branded component line called 4ZA (pronounced forza).
The company structure was reorganized in 2002 to prepare the launch on the international market. Ridley HQ doubled in size from 2.500m² to 5.000m². By delivering race bikes to strategic countries in Europe, Ridley Bikes realized an international breakthrough in 2004. Thereafter, Ridley Bikes started to deliver race bikes worldwide. In Europe, the company provides its customers with a door-to-door service, the intercontinental markets are serviced through a distributor. In 2008, a second production site in Moldova was founded. 2010 was the year of the Ridley move. Ridley Bikes moved to their brand new HQ of 12.000m² in Paal-Beringen.
Flanders, the Flemish region of Belgium is infamous for delivering the harshest cycling conditions. Riding in the rain, on cobbled non-category climbs, on snow and on ice are the norm for Belgium’s 6,000 cycling clubs. This place, the pounding heart of a passionate cycling nation where the most revered Spring Classics unfold, is the cold steel anvil where flesh and bones are forged into the greatest racers of all time. This is Belgium, home to Ridley Bikes, this is where our products are engineered, hammered into raw form by the roads themselves, and where we refi ne them in competition.
This is Ridley. We are Belgium!
Paul Hewitt Cycles have been a Ridley dealer since they were first introduced into the UK and we feel Ridley's current range is one of their finest, and they are continuing to rival many of the more established manufacturers. There are numerous options on each of Ridleys models and a feature unique to Ridley is the customisable paint finishes (see here for example) available on a range of their higher level framesets.
The geometry of Ridley frames also seems to have evolved to become, for most riders, the most suitable of the frames we deal with, the top tube / head tube relationship allows for a more comfortable fitting bike without excessive spacing being required under the stem.
